A noted civil servant under Cromwell-s Protectorate, he has been variously identified as a patriot, spy, conspirator, concealed homosexual, father to the liberal tradition, and incendiary satirical pamphleteer and freethinker. But while Marvell-s poetry and prose has attracted a wide modern following, his prose is known only to specialists, and much of his personal life remains shrouded in mystery. Nigel Smith-s pivotal biography provides an unparalleled look into Marvell-s life, from his early employment as a tutor and gentleman-s companion to his suspicious death, reputedly a politically fueled poisoning. Drawing on exhaustive archival research, the voluminous corpus of Marvell-s previously little known writing, and recent scholarship across several disciplines, Smith-s portrait becomes the definitive account of this elusive life.

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# File Size: 5 KB
# Print Length: 352 pages
# Publisher: Yale University Press

>> more details..

Imitation In Death Kindle Edition

Imitation In Death (Kindle Edition)

Author Nora Roberts, J.D. D. Robb, alter ego of bestselling author Nora Roberts. With the very first victim, Eve realizes that the killer stalking the streets of New York City isn't a run-of-the-mill serial murderer. The copycat executions are imitating the methods and victim choices of an ominous list of notorious serial killers, beginning with Jack the Ripper. And when the killer leaves a distinctive note at the crime scene, it's clear that he's targeting Eve personally--a fact that worries Roarke, Eve's shrewd husband.

Assisted by her aide, Peabody, Eve compiles a list of suspects that includes several high-profile possibilities. Their very prominence, however, complicates the investigation, for they have the power and influence to make the search difficult. All of the suspects are reluctant to cooperate but one of them is playing with Eve like a cat with a mouse by tempting her with crime scene notes and challenging her to find him. Can Eve stop him before he slaughters again? Or will his next victim be Eve herself?

Author Robb, a.k.a. Roberts, doesn't miss a beat in this police procedural thriller. The futuristic setting is rich with imaginative details; the cast of supporting characters offers an intriguing variety, while Eve and Roarke's relationship is layered with emotional intimacy and spiced with sex. Whether you're a faithful follower or new to the series, you won't be disappointed in the edge-of-the-seat suspense in Imitation In Death. Don't miss this one. --Lois Faye Dyer

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# File Size: 673 KB
# Print Length: 352 pages
# Publisher: Berkley

>> more details..

Reviews Imitation In Death Kindle Edition

The main characters mostly have some good points in this book, although I was a bit weirded out by Roberts' description of Morris (he is suddenly described with the adjective 'exotic' on two consecutive pages). Peabody is taking the detective exam, McNab is being lovey-dovey with the aforementioned, and Roarke is getting through the loss discovered in Portrait. There's a lack of Feeney in this book, as well as Nadine, but it plays out better for it, especially since Portrait had characters experiencing Significant Moments of Life every five pages. Not that this book isn't lacking in the odd character moment here and there, but it works anyway. For Lt. Dallas herself, there is a big flashback - and a fascinating one, for it's about the person that her brandy-colored eyes are from - and no, it's not her dad.

One of my favorite aspects of this series is the Eve-Roarke dynamic, and in this book, they're awfully cute in this book, and such fun to read. I don't mean gushy cute, thank goodness, but they're a highly amusing couple. A favorite moment of mine is Eve watching, with some baffled horror, as Roarke cooks, and I don't mean with an Auto-Chef. More than ever, I think this couple has really settled into a comfortable dynamic, the way that only they can do it.

One of the reasons it's such fun to read this is because of how the characters have grown throughout the books. I feel that Roberts' other books often lost realism in the characters, with the books themselves too often ending with a tidily engaged couple and pregnant female. However, the In Death series gives her the chance to naturally grow these characters, and it's really evident in this book. Compare Imitation to Naked or Glory, and it's actually a little scary to see how these characters - especially Eve and Roarke - have changed, but they've done so together, and it's sweetly romantic.

The Cove Kindle

The Cove (Unknown Binding)

Author Catherine Coulter

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
"So perfect, like a Hollywood set," FBI agent James Quinlan thinks as he enters The Cove, a seemingly tranquil, picture-postcard town situated on the Oregon coast. Quinlan has been on Sally Brainerd's trail since her arms-dealing father, Amory St. John, was murdered. Sally is the key witness, and it's Quinlan's job to bring her in. Quinlan, whose cover is working as a PI hired to find an old couple who had mysteriously disappeared three years earlier, quickly learns that when he starts asking questions, bad things start happening. Coulter (The Nightingale Legacy), whose contemporary suspense novels are, unfortunately, few and far between, delivers a fast-paced, solidly structured read despite the occasionally cartoonish characters.
Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Product Details
# File Size: 641 KB
# Print Length: 384 pages
# Publisher: Jove

>> more details..

Reviews The Cove Kindle

I've read quite a number of Coulters books and this one was definitly lacking. Not the worst book ever read bun certainly not the best!

The plot is interesting and there are a few surprizes. I didn't find any of the characters likible except for the FBI agent who is the friend of the hero.There are two mysteries going on here. One involves Sally 's(the lead female) father's death and the second one is the source of the small town of Cove's income. Some of the inhabitants of Cove are very irritating and so is Sally .
The actions that take place in this novel could never take place in real life. This is not a police procedural. It is an FBI fantasy novel. 2 1/2 stars.

All By My Selves Kindle Edition

All By My Selves (Kindle Edition)

Author Jeff Dunham

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
There are many sides to the comedic genius of Jeff Dunham, who has risen in recent years to become a genuine entertainment phenomenon, having sold more than four million DVDs and who performs sold-out shows across the world. It's all because Jeff Dunham is not just one of the funniest humans on the planet but the ringleader of a cast of comedic characters like Walter the grumpy retiree; the beer-swilling, NASCAR loving and resolutely redneck Bubba J; the furry and manic Peanut; Jose Jalapeno, the spicy pepper from south of the border; and the bumbling skeletal Achmed the Dead Terrorist. There is no wonder why Time Magazine calls him "the most popular stand-up comedian in the U.S."

He has rocketed into the pantheon of top comedians thanks to a dynamic combination of humane warmth, a keen sense of the humor to be found in everyday life, a sharp wit, and a cutting- edge sensibility. Political correctness is not in his-or his characters'- vocabulary, and millions of fans love him for it.

All by My Selves is Jeff's story, a comedic memoir that takes us behind the curtain to explain how he turned a tired, vaudevillian art form into something truly modern and hip. Not only will Jeff show how he developed his characters and how his act has evolved, but he'll also share details of his life as a working comedian and family man on the road. Best of all, Jeff's story will be vetted by his characters-they'll tell the "real" story, all the hilarious details Jeff himself is too modest to include.

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# Print Length: 256 pages
# Publisher: DUTTON ADULT

>> more details..

Reviews All By My Selves Kindle Edition

Jeff Dunham is one of America's best-known comedians. Her new work is a thriller about a young woman whose sister was murdered. For the next seven years, she dedicates herself to getting the training necessary to catch the killer, then joins the FBI. When she meets up with Belinda's suspected murderer, the String Killer, she questions whether Belinda was one of his victims. She dreams about the murder in vivid detail; meanwhile, she is distracted by her strange family and by the apparently growing feelings between her and her supervisor, Dillon Savich. While Coulter's characters relate well to each other, Dillon is too good to be true. Coincidence stretches belief, but the book is an easy, fast read, good for summer entertainment. The Maze is the book where Savich and Sherlock meet and become a couple. It is entertaining to read in retrospect after knowing them as a married couple. Parts of it are contrived and predictable, but for fans of the series, it is a must-read.

While in FBI training boot camp, she meets the well known computer whiz/FBI special agent Dillion, who also heads some FBI department that specializes in tracking killers. After an impressive drill/test, Dillion asks the department to assign Lacey to his force. Fortunately for her, this would allow her to track her sisters killer on the side. While all this is going on, the killer strikes again in Boston, her brother-in-law seems to be falling for her, Dillions ex who also works in the same department send her the evil jealous eye, and her family seems to be looney as ever with her insane mother hinting at her father trying to kill her. Not to mention falling in love for the first time since her sisters death...

This book was a page turner, really well paced and kept me guessing til the end. However, the romance btw Lacey and Dillion didnt seem all that hot to be honest. They went from being totally professional to being in bed one night to talking about marriage, er yea... it just didnt seem all that real, the romance between these two seemed forced, more like an after thought.

From this exercise and a scenario in the FBI's "Hogan's Alley", we can see Lacey Sherlock's grit and determination. Lacey meets up with Dillon Savich, head of the Criminal Apprehension Unit, as he poses as the villain in the Hogan's Alley scenario. He admires her "never say die" attitude as he bests her again and again until her partner tosses her a weapon and she "shoots" him -- red paint all over his shirt and tie now.

Lacey is excited to be asked to join Savich's unit as while she had wanted to be a Profiler she found that it was just too intense an gory for her. Savich's unit uses computer databasing and modelling -- programs Savich wrote -- to help find patterns and similarities to other crimes to catch criminals that have crossed state lines. The CAU as it is called is asked in by local law enforcement or go in on their own when the crimes become national.

Lacey is lucky enough to accompany Savich as his partner is with his wife who is giving birth and go to Chicago to apprehend the killer know as "The Toaster." The process that went into figure out who The Toaster is has been thought out and detailed very well in this plot line. Lacey also gets to see that Savich is not a glory hound and that he helps the locals come to the same conclusions he did so that they get the notoriety.

Food Rules Kindle Edition

Best Buy Food Rules (Kindle Edition)

Author Michael Pollan

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
A pocket compendium of food wisdom-from the author of The Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food

Michael Pollan, our nation's most trusted resource for food-related issues, offers this indispensible guide for anyone concerned about health and food. Simple, sensible, and easy to use, Food Rules is a set of memorable rules for eating wisely, many drawn from a variety of ethnic or cultural traditions. Whether at the supermarket or an all-you-can-eat-buffet, this handy, pocket-size resource is the perfect guide for anyone who would like to become more mindful of the food we eat.

About the Author
Michael Pollan is the author of five previous books, including In Defense of Food, The Omnivore's Dilemma, and The Botany of Desire. Pollan takes the essential and fascinating information that he wrote about in his previous book and simmers it down into a succinct (the book is basically 70 half pages long) "manual" of rules for eating. While this book retains some of the bones of its predecessor, it is by no means a Cliff's Notes version. This manual is essential reading all on its own.

Food Rules is broken down into 3 sections (and this will sound familiar to those that read In Defense of Food): 1- What should I eat? (Eat food) 2 - What kind of food should I eat? (Mostly plants) and 3 - How should I eat? (Not too much). Each section includes 20 or so rules that you can pick and choose from in order to eat a healthy diet. Some of the rules overlap (Avoid food products that contain ingredients that a third-grader cannot pronounce and Avoid ingredients that no ordinary human would keep in the pantry, for instance) and some seem like such common sense that it is almost laughable to include them, but that is why this manual is so important. It distills all of this complex information that we see and hear every day and turns it into something relatable. We know, somewhere in our minds, that certain grains and oils are better than others. Pollan gives us an easy rule to help know which ones are best. We know that most breakfast cereals are little more than desserts and Pollan gives us an easy rule to know which ones are safe. Some rules are humorous (it's not food if it arrived through the window of your car) and some are serious; some rules are easy and others require a bit more dedication. But what this manual has is a wide range of useful tips that can be applied to any life at any time. This is no complicated diet; this is a little pocket book of sensible, realistic rules to help you eat your best.

Velvet Elvis Kindle Edition

Best Sellers Velvet Elvis (Kindle Edition)

Author Rob Bell

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
Bell, pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Mich., offers an innovative and intriguing, if uneven, first book. This introduction to the Christian faith is definitely outside the usual evangelical box. Bell wants to offer "a fresh take on Jesus"—a riff that begins with the assertion that Jesus wanted to "call people to live in tune with reality" and that he "had no use for religion." Bell invites seekers into a Christianity that has room for doubts (his church recently hosted an evening where doubters were invited to ask their hardest, most challenging questions). He mocks literalists whose faith seems to depend on a six-day creation, and one of his favorite people is a woman who turned up repeatedly at his church, only to tell him that she totally disagreed with his teachings. He cites his church as a place of forgiveness, mystery, community and transformation. Bell is well-versed in Jewish teachings and draws from rabbinic wisdom and stories freely. His casual, hip tone can grate at times, and his footnotes, instructing readers to drop everything and read the books that have influenced him, grow old. Still, this is faithful, creative Christianity, and Gen-Xers especially will find Bell a welcome guide to the Christian faith. Just as a Velvetized Version of Elvis is an interpretive repainting, repainting the Church into a new look and new vision forms the basic idea behind this book. On page 11 Rob Bell mentions the picture the church of Martin Luther's day had been painting and presenting. Regarding these 21st century days, I know a lot about the picture the church has painted of itself and maybe even more so, the way outsiders to the church have viewed and interpreted that picture. Page 14: "What I do know is that this pursuit of Jesus is leading us backward as much as forward," evokes the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century.

Maybe more than anything about this book, I love reading the same theological vision and scriptural interpretations as I hold (humility from humble moi) from Rob Bell, someone I'd consider a relative theological conservative.

Hospitality is God's first call to the people of God and fundamentally defines them. From the beginning, the uniqueness of the nascent church as it moved outward from Jerusalem was its radical inclusiveness and "see how they love one another." No one lacked anything; everyone had everything in common, a true common-wealth, as the New England Puritans initially believed they'd be able to live. But it was not only about embrace and provision for the already-insiders; the first Christians embraced and provided for everyone, making no distinctions whatsoever. The outsider became incarnate, enfleshed as one of them, becoming an insider.

While the thoughts are good and this is certainly a good primer for those interested in the emerging movement, I have to take off a star for Bell's writing style which is, in short, infuriating. Highly recommended, but I do wish he could write in complete sentences instead of expecting us to properly form his thoughts for him.

Talk of the Town Kindle Edition

Best Sellers Talk of the Town (Kindle Edition)

Author Lisa Wingate

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
The show American Megastar is the hottest thing on television but its associate producer, Mandalay Florentino, is worried. And paparazzi are arriving. Word from Hollywood is that Amber has disappeared with a "bad boy" actor. Can anything go right in this tumbleweed town? Imagene Doll loves her town of Daily, Texas, but things are lonely without her beloved husband. Life seems dull. At least until that fancy-dressed woman pulls into town, looking terrified and glamorous all at once. Soon life's not the least bit boring as Imagene and the rest of Daily find themselves at the center of a media maelstrom--with a young girl's future on the line.

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# Print Length: 368 pages
# Publisher: Bethany House

>> more details..

Reviews Best Sellers Talk of the Town (Kindle Edition)

Yes, it had a fairly predictable plot, but the characters were great fun and very real. It moved me to tears in places and made me laugh out loud in others. While it was clearly grounded in faith, it was not so overwhelming that I felt like I was reading a sermon and I think it could be enjoyed by a reader of any faith. It's a pleasure to run across such a talented author. I've read 2 other books by Wingate and will seek out more.

Definitely not a small town devotee, Manda is very conspicuous going about town talking to town folks. They figure out what she's about as soon as she arrives on the scene, but they do their best not to let her catch on to the fact that they've caught on. The townspeople, in the persons of Imagene Doll and all the beauty shop ladies, "adopt" Manda and try to help, although she's never sure she really needs their help. But Daily is just like that--neighbor helping neighbor, friend helping friend, never knowing a stranger. Of course, the gossip hotline is well and alive. They wouldn't like to think they're gossiping, though; they're really just looking out for their own. One of their own is Amber, and they'll do anything to help her overcome a difficult childhood. As far as Daily is concerned, there is only one American Megastar.

Manda's professional nemesis is boss Ursula, who gives orders like a staff sergeant and expects complete compliance. No is not a word in her repertoire. Manda is "sort of" engaged to David, who hasn't managed to find time to buy a ring. Between the lukewarm fiancé and the job stress, Manda is ready to have a personal crisis. Once in Daily, she meets Carter, who manages in a very short time to intrigue Manda as David never has. Who is this handsome stranger and why is he here sharing the Elvis suite with Manda?

The Apothecary's Daughter Kindle Edition

Best Seller The Apothecary's Daughter (Kindle Edition)

Author Julie Klassen

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
While working in her father’s apothecary shop in the small village of Bedsley Priors, Lilly Haswell dreams of one day traveling the world, perhaps even finding her mother, who had left her family three years before and has never been heard from since. When the chance to live with her maternal aunt and uncle is unexpectedly offered to her, Lilly sees the opportunity for a new life. Once in London, she indulges in a bit of romantic flirtation with several different men while also learning more about her mother’s mysterious disappearance. Then, when a crisis forces Lilly to return to Bedsley Priors, she faces the difficult challenge of giving up her fabulous independent life in order to help out the family she has always loved. Filled with fascinating details about the apothecary trade in Regency England, Klassen’s latest superbly crafted inspirational romance is an emotionally compelling and quietly powerful tale about the importance of faith and hope, family and friends, love and loyalty. --John Charles

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# Print Length: 416 pages
# Publisher: Bethany House Publishers

>> more details..

Reviews Best Seller The Apothecary's Daughter (Kindle Edition)

In the village of Bedsley Priors, Lillian Haswell is known by all as the apothecary's daughter; intelligent and dutiful; she assists her father in nearly every aspect of his profession. From growing herbs to prescribing certain remedies, to running errands for him. Mr. Haswell is full of regret that his son Charlie cannot follow in his footsteps, but young Charlie is a bit slow. Instead he must rely on his daughter. While Lilly has a knack of remembering everything and is gifted in the field of medicine, she dreams of traveling, seeing the world- but most of all, finding her mother. Years prior Mrs. Haswell left her husband and children, promising to return, however she never did. So when Lilly's aunt and uncle invite her to stay in London with them, she believes that her dreams are becoming a reality. Nearly two years pass when she is called home. She finds her home in disarray, her father ill, her brother working elsewhere and their own little shop closed. Despite her yearning to go back to London, Lilly does her duty and works diligently to bring their apothecary's shop back to it's former glory. What follows, I never would have guess, but I'll not spoil it for you.
After reading Klassen's former novel, "Lady of Milkweed Manor" I was eagerly awaiting her next work and was not left disappointed. While I still prefer "Lady of Milkweed Manor," "The Apothecary's Daughter" claimed my attention from morning to late afternoon, until I finished it. Lilly was an engaging heroine; bright and intelligent. The only disappointment that I felt was that her father hadn't realized what a jewel he had for a daughter until almost the end. Of course one must keep in mind that this story is based in the Regency Era and that the medical profession was forbidden to women. I was completely surprised by the author's choice in who Lilly ended up with. I was certain it would be once character and it turned out to be someone completely different. Another shock was the secrets behind Mrs. Haswell's disappearance and Mr. Haswell's own past. I promise you, like Klassen's other book, you won't finish this story without tears.

Devotions for Lent Kindle Edition

Best sellers Devotions for Lent (Kindle Edition)

Author Tyndale House

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
The 40 days leading up to Easter, known as Lent, are set aside as a time for reflection and self-denial in preparation for the celebration of Easter. RELATE-ABLE STORY: for the most part, the story was easily believable. lots of soldiers join for different reasons and the story was relate-able. i could easily imagine some of the soldiers i've met telling me about their background and coming across something like this
2. EVEN SOLDIERS CAN FIND LOVE: unlike most soldiers i know, the main character found love. so it was nice, especially for those soldiers that died - to imagine that maybe they too could have fallen in love.
3. NO FAIRY TALE ENDING: it was real. real life sucks sometimes and that's the truth of it. i'm really glad it wasn't all glitter and rainbows because that would have make me just hate this book. i liked that the main characters were conflicted and acted like, well, young people in love.

The ending of the book really killed me. I felt like I was stabbed in my heart. I hated the ending. After everything John goes through.. and I mean everything. He still does not get to be with the one he loved. I really felt for him. As I started to read that last letter Savannah sent john, I started to tear up because I knew what was coming. Thats a terrible way to end it with him. All that I could think of was that she didn't wait for him. When John sees her again after his dad passed away. she mentions how she thinks about it everyday what would of happen if she waited and married John. You don't know how much I wanted to strangle her

I know that John knew Tim loved her and all but what I don't understand is why be with someone you have to learn to love than be with someone who it was easy to love right off the bat. Even Tim acknowledged it in the hospital during his talk with John. He knew that Savannah didn't love him the way that she loved John. You could tell that Tim wanted to have that kind of love with Savannah.

Kindle Slow Hands

Slow Hands (Kindle Edition)

Author Leslie Kelly

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
This is Maddy Turner's lucky day. The civilized society girl just bid on sexy rogue Jake Wallace at a charity bachelor auction--and won! But Maddy knows Jake's dirty little secret. And it should keep her from trying out her new boy toy. Too bad she can't stop herself from indulging in raw, quite uncivilized sex all the same....

Jake Wallace is utterly bewitched by Maddy--and utterly bewildered. How can this tantalizing woman melt so rapturously under his ministrations one moment, then turn into a haughty queen the next? He's determined to get to the bottom of Maddy's agenda. Just what I want in my lover. He wants the girl (Maddy) to be herself, and that's cool. Maddy and her family are fun and the writing style is full of quirky humor. I am definitely getting Heated Rush today.

Read this, the price is right. Then you have to read Heated Rush, the better of the two books. Good reading for romance.

Tabby insists her sibling Maddy outbid the shrew. Maddy reluctantly agrees for daddy's sake as she does not want him hurt. She wins international businessman Jake Wallace. However, as their attraction grows, he is confused by her references to global economy as if she assumes he is an expert when he is a local paramedic; the auction brochure was wrong.

The fun with this humorous contemporary romance is the miscommunication between Maddy and Jake; as her premise is he is an international womanizing businessman while he assumes she knows he is a paramedic. Their banter sounds at times out of an Abbot and Costello routine only bawdier. Leslie Kelly keeps her ensemble under control while the laughs never stop as Maddy and Jake fall in love, but may not make it together due to her pre-perceptions.

Kindle Duality Guardians of the Light 1

Duality: Guardians of the Light, Book 1 (Kindle Edition)

Author Renee Wildes

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
Guardians of the Light, Book 1

Dara Khan Androcles is really in over her head this time. From childhood she-s been forced to hide her half-dragon mage fighting skills behind a public persona as a healer. Now, with a traitor and his demon threatening the throne of Safehold, Dara has no choice but to turn reluctant warrior-and seek help.

She strikes a bargain with runaway Elven prince Loren ta Cedric and his sentient, pain-in-the-butt war mare, Hani-ena. Loren-s not only too handsome for Dara-s own good, the powerful empath can see right through to the pain that drives her.

Loren can-t help but feel Dara-s every hurt, physical and emotional. Though his need for her drives him half mad, he must stay his course to see justice done for his people. Even if it means swearing a Life Debt to the distracting mortal.

That vow, made in the heat of their parallel quests, carries more power than either of them guessed. The power to bond the unlikely pair as Life Mates. The power to lay bare the fears and desires that could bind them to a single purpose-or tear them apart.

All the while a demon awaits, ready to destroy all that they hold dear.

Warning: Contains patricide; noble self-sacrifice; one bad-ass, demon-possessed despot; a bad-tempered dragon; and a water mage who likes to -rain- on her husband-s parade-literally. Downside: A quest for a magic book (written in blood) that nobody wants, and a talking war mare with the warm, fuzzy voice of Judy Densch. Upside: Serious ass-kicking. I enjoyed the strength and love of the characters. This book is not for everyone but if you like mid evil fantasy, you'll enjoy it. There was romance, fantasy and more, it is great for action lovers, romance lovers and fantasy lovers. I can not wait till I have a weekend to read Renee's next book. I should since there are a few negatives for this one. I thought this was an excellent love story with a lot of action (fighting, magic, etc). It doesn't take long to get past the dialect, at least it didn't for me, and it was well worth it.

Kindle Using Lessons from Work to Succeed in Life

Treat Me Like a Customer: Using Lessons from Work to Succeed in Life (Kindle Edition)

Author Louis Upkins

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
Be As Successful at Home As You Are at Work So many professionals work non-stop to secure the next rung on the corporate ladder. Makes for a more "real life" story, problems of everyday living, yet draws you into wanting to continue and not put down the book until the end of story, because of the positive solutions and goals of the people involved.
As well as Karen Kingsbury, Dee Henderson, and any other author whos writing style strikes my fancy. Southern Storm was a fantastic read. It literally kept me flipping pages till around 1:30 in the morning. The plot keeps adding on to the point where you just can't find a dry spot. This book was better than the first (Cape Refuge was great as well) but it's easier to get into Blair and Cade's character.

I think to introduce the characters. I really liked the second book better because right from the first page it got you into the story.

Kindle Cape Refuge Series 1

Cape Refuge (Cape Refuge Series #1) (Kindle Edition)

Author Terri Blackstock

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
From Publishers Weekly
Although Blackstock, a former bestselling romance author in the general market, is now well-known in the CBA for her writing partnership with Beverly LaHaye, her most successful books belong to the inspirational suspense genre, and this novel is no exception. On a small barrier island east of Savannah, Ga., lies Cape Refuge, the site of Hanover House, a halfway home for ex-cons and derelicts run by the island's most beloved no-nonsense Christian couple, Thelma and Wayne Owens. But when the Owenses are found spear-gunned through their throats in their warehouse church, the island and its inhabitants get turned upside-down. The Owens's daughter Morgan's husband, Jonathan, is charged with the murder, but former drug addict Gus Hampton and Hanover House resident Richard Dugan also fall under suspicion. As the Owenses' other daughter, Blair who has spent a lifetime rejecting faith and love because of facial scars from the mysterious burns she suffered as a young child examines her parents' papers, she discovers that Thelma and Wayne had a very shady past. Also drawn into the web of intrigue is a homeless teenager who comes to Hanover House seeking shelter from an abusive family. The pacing is a bit slow at the start, but good writing, well-honed descriptive details, compelling characters and a conclusion that doesn't succumb to pat answers keep the pages turning, making this an engaging novel for fans of Christian nail-biters.

From Library Journal
Cape Refuge is a peaceful island off the coast of Savannah, GA, a place where the weary and the persecuted retreat to find themselves again. Nothing bad happens here until Wade and Thelma Owens are murdered. Prior to their deaths, the couple had been under pressure from the town council to shut down Hanover House, their bed-and-breakfast for lost souls, because some of their clients had criminal records. And Jonathan Cleary, the couple's son-in-law, had wanted to move his wife, Morgan, out of the house, fearing for her safety. Blair Owens, the second daughter, had moved out years ago and become the town librarian, seeking refuge in books from scars incurred during a fire. When motive and means point to Jonathan, the sisters band together to find the true killer. As Morgan takes over running Hanover House, her example reawakens Blair's interest in God even as they discover that their perfect parents were keeping secrets that may have killed them and endangered everyone at Hanover House. Because of her strong and lengthy publishing history, Blackstock (Emerald Windows) belongs in library collections as a standard purchase; this first book in an new series is an excellent starting point.
Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# File Size: 881 KB
# Print Length: 400 pages

>> more details..

Reviews Kindle Cape Refuge Series 1

I was pleasantly surprised how well I liked this whole series. It had quite a bit more religeous scripture than I would've liked, but the characters were well developed, and the plot was fantastic. I usually can guess the killer right off the top, but this one took me almost to the end to figure it out.

I purchased this book a while ago. I was so anxious to start it, but college and work took most of my time. This past weekend I was able to finally pick it up and can say that it was worth the wait! It was so refreshing to read a book from a strong Christian author.
The dialogue between Morgan and Blair about faith and God is wonderful. Blair's questions are so true of many people today and Morgan's responses are ones that I can see myself stating.

I had chills and goosebumps as I was reading the last few chapters. This is a great Christian murder mystery that will have you wanting more. Good thing there are three other books in the series.

Kindle The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Kindle Edition)

Author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
From School Library Journal
Grade 7 Up-Four short stories of mystery and intrigue by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are performed radio theater style by the St. Charles Players: "The Adventure of the Speckled Band," "The Adventure of the Dancing Men," "A Scandal in Bohemia," and "The Adventure of the Devil's Foot." The narration is acceptable, although some characters sound flat and their British accent is too obviously forced. However, this detracts little from the overall entertainment value of the stories. The overall aural quality could be improved; a slight hissing can be heard throughout the narration. Though at times Holmes comes across as haughty, listeners become caught up in learning how he ingeniously solves the cases using clues that Watson, the other investigators, and most listeners miss. Fine for individual or group listening, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes could be used for entertainment or for a unit on the mystery genre in English classes. The lack of strong female characters in these stories may warrant including alternate classic mysteries with strong women, such as Simon Brett's Mrs. Pargeter, Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, Heron Carvic's Miss Seeton, or Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax. A nice feature of this package is that each short story is completed with one cassette. Unless you have a great demand for classic mysteries, this audiobook is an additional purchase.
Sarah Smith, Harrison Community Library, MI
Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal
These deluxe Oxford editions offer the exploits of Holmes and Watson the red carpet treatment they truly deserve. Now, in 59 Seconds, he fights back, bringing together the diverse scientific advice that can help you change your life in under a minute, and guides you toward becoming more decisive, more imaginative, more engaged, and altogether more happy.

From mood to memory, persuasion to procrastination, resilience to relationships, Wiseman outlines the research supporting the new science of “rapid change” and, with clarity and infectious enthusiasm, describes how these quirky, sometimes counterintuitive techniques can be effortlessly incorporated into your everyday life. Scott Fitzgerald enthusiasts and fans.

The Brightest Star in the Sky Kindle

The Brightest Star in the Sky (Kindle Edition)

Author Marian Keyes

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description

Marian Keyes's inimitable blend of rollicking humor, effervescent prose, and stories that deal with real-life issues have captivated readers around the globe. She is one of the bestselling authors of women's fiction in the English-speaking world. Her new novel will delight fans of Candace Bushnell's darkly comic sensibility and Sophie Kinsella's fast-paced action. The Brightest Star in the Sky follows seven neighbors whose lives become entangled when a sassy and prescient spirit pays a visit to their Dublin townhouse with the intent of changing at least one of their lives.

But what will this metamorphosis be and who will the sprite choose? There's Matt and Maeve, the newlyweds struggling to overcome the first obstacle in their storybook romance; Lydia, the brassy but vulnerable cabbie; Katie, the just-turned-forty PR executive searching for a more gratifying life; and the eldest resident, Jemima, currently playing hostess to her son Fionn, who is in town to star as the hunky gardener in a hot new television show.

Starred Review. Keyes delivers a dizzying vertical view of the mismatched, mixed-up tenants of Dublin's 66 Star Street, friends and lovers who grow up, grow old and give way to their heart currents with help from a puckish sprite. This multitiered saga of Dubliners searching for the brightest star in the sky... the planet of love straddles slapstick and sophistication in an engaging balancing act both giddy and grand. Here's Katie, publicist, freshly 40, and her workaholic, commitment-phobic fella, Conall; newlyweds Maeve and Matt, who hide a violent and crippling secret that binds them and drives them apart; madcap, sassy Lydia, a taxi driver who juggles worries about her aging mom and an over-the-top passion (mixed with equal parts lust and disdain) for her sexy flatmate; plucked from nowhere hunk Fionn, who hopes to begin a TV career, and his psychic foster mom and her mean-as-a-snake dog who improbably helps bring all the sweet mayhem to a satisfying close. Keyes (This Charming Man) is an expert at weaving dark threads into cozy material, and in this ambitious outing, she's in top form. That's all I'm going to say about that. Anything more would be spoiling the fun.

66 star street is a four level apartment building and at the beginning of the book seven people live there (one will join later.) There's Jemima, an eighty eight year old woman with a very strange dog named Grudge, some physic tendencies (but she claims she's just old) and a son named Fionn who she adores beyond anything. Fionn himself is a beyond normally handsome gardener about to get his own TV show. Then there's Katie-she's just turning forty and works in PR for musicians but in spite of her workaholic always traveling none live in boyfriend (Conall) who rips companies apart and puts them back together-she's pretty unfulfilled. On the second floor we have Lydia, Andrei and Jan. Lydia is a twenty something bundle of sarcasm who drives a cab and has some great unknown (to us) problem in her life. Andrei and Jan are Polish men who came to Dublin for better jobs and business school. And on the ground floor Matt and Maeve, who have been married for four years and appear in every respect to be the perfect couple and very, very much in love-but a deeper look reveals that something is very, very wrong.

How We Decide Kindle

How We Decide (Kindle Edition)

<img style="float:left; For a reader who is aware of the work in behavioral psychology, this book provides incremental value at best. For a reader getting initiated to this field, this book is an OK introduction to the vast research, though my no means a unique interpretation. It is written in a very accessible manner and the narration sustains the interest of the reader throughout the book. The reader may have been better served if the author provided a synopsis of each chapter in the context of his title "how we decide".

How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack

Courting Disaster: How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack (Kindle Edition)

Author Marc Thiessen

>> more details..

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 39px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UBIlxhIz7B0/SuUXOzezSFI/AAAAAAAAAA4/6OgRtx_ZBXI/s1600/buynow.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396745271578413138" />

Product Description
White House speechwriter Marc Thiessen was locked in a secure room and given access to the most sensitive intelligence when he was tasked to write President George W. Bush’s 2006 speech explaining the CIA’s interrogation program and why Congress should authorize it. Few know more about these CIA operations than Thiessen, and in his new book, Courting Disaster, he documents just how effective the CIA’s interrogations were in foiling attacks on America, penetrating al-Qaeda’s high command, and providing our military with actionable intelligence. But don't tell Kathryn Stockett because her first novel is a nuanced variation on the theme that strikes every note with authenticity. In a page-turner that brings new resonance to the moral issues involved, she spins a story of social awakening as seen from both sides of the American racial divide.

Newly graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in English but neither an engagement ring nor a steady boyfriend, Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan returns to her parents' cotton farm in Jackson. Although it's 1962, during the early years of the civil rights movement, she is largely unaware of the tensions gathering around her town.

Skeeter is in some ways an outsider. Her friends, bridge partners and fellow members of the Junior League are married. Most subscribe to the racist attitudes of the era, mistreating and despising the black maids whom they count on to raise their children. Skeeter is not racist, but she is naive and unwittingly patronizing. When her best friend makes a political issue of not allowing the "help" to use the toilets in their employers' houses, she decides to write a book in which the community's maids -- their names disguised -- talk about their experiences.

Fear of discovery and retribution at first keep the maids from complying, but a stalwart woman named Aibileen, who has raised and nurtured 17 white children, and her friend Minny, who keeps losing jobs because she talks back when insulted and abused, sign on with Skeeter's risky project, and eventually 10 others follow.

Aibileen and Minny share the narration with Skeeter, and one of Stockett's accomplishments is reproducing African American vernacular and racy humor without resorting to stilted dialogue. She unsparingly delineates the conditions of black servitude a century after the Civil War.

The murders of Medgar Evers and Martin Luther King Jr. are seen through African American eyes, but go largely unobserved by the white community. Meanwhile, a room "full of cake-eating, Tab-drinking, cigarette-smoking women" pretentiously plan a fundraiser for the "Poor Starving Children of Africa." In general, Stockett doesn't sledgehammer her ironies, though she skirts caricature with a "white trash" woman who has married into an old Jackson family. Yet even this character is portrayed with the compassion and humor that keep the novel levitating above its serious theme.

Product Details
# Format: Kindle Edition
# File Size: 664 KB
# Print Length: 464 pages
# Publisher: Putnam Adult; 1 edition

>> more details..

Reviews The Help Kindle

This is the best book I have read in years! I can't recommend it enough! It is fabulous and I think they will make a movie out of it. I would compare it to the writings of Carson McCullers, Harper Lee, Truman Capote and even Margaret Mitchell. The story grabs you and doesn't let you go. You can smell the melted tar on the Mississippi roads, the toil in the cotton fields, the grits burning on the stove. The theme is the indomitable will of human beings to survive against all odds - because of the color of their skin. It is a heart-wrenching account and you will never fondly remember the times of the Jim Crow laws (if you ever did). The pure, down and out bitchery of the white ladies who become dissatisfied with their maids and proceed to ruin their lives is portrayed vividly.

New York Times Best Sellers and most new releases

            The Lost Symbol
by Dan Brown

Now the mystery is yours to solve. The island of Jamaica holds out against the vast supremacy of the Spanish empire. Port Royal, its capital, is a cutthroat town of taverns, grog shops, and bawdy houses. In this climate there's a living to be made, a living that can end by disease or dagger. For Captain Charles Hunter, gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking, and the law of the land rests with those ruthless enough to make it.

            The Lacuna
by Barbara Kingsolver

The Lacuna is a story of a man pulled between two nations as they invent their modern identities. Born in the United States, reared in a series of provisional households in Mexico, Harrison Shepherd finds precarious shelter but no sense of home on his odyssey. Life is whatever he learns from housekeepers who put him to work in the kitchen, errands he runs in the streets, and one fateful day, by mixing plaster for famed Mexican muralist Diego Rivera.

            SuperFreakonomics
by Steven D. If the king dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years, and marry Anne Boleyn.
